2012 NW Zone SCM Championships

By Jim Lasersohn of Orca Swim Team Seattle

Mark your calendars for the weekend of October 20-21.  The Orca Swim Team is proud to be hosting the NW Zone Short Course Meters 2012 Championship at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.    The NW Zone is comprised of the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.  The SCM Zone Champs are only offered every few years in our area so we expect a great turnout of swimmers to swim in one of the fastest pools in the region.

Although the meet may have “Champs” in the title, know that all masters swimmers are encouraged to participate – no qualifying times or past experience is required.  And masters swimmer friends outside of the Zone are welcome to participate as well.

The meet will begin on Saturday, October 20th at 12 noon and will continue the following Sunday morning with the last race completing by early afternoon.  A full range of short course meter events will be offered to give you the opportunity to improve your SCM times and maybe even break some PNA records.  Meet director Jim Lasersohn encourages you to consider forming some relays for the 400 Medley, 400 Free, and 800 Free which are typically not offered in meets in our area.  PNA records for these events in some age groups may be non-existent or have not been touched in years.

Of particular interest to IGLA Swimmers is that the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center will host the 2013 IGLA Championships next year!

Online entries for the meet should be available by the end of July and discounted hotel information is already available.  See  for more information.
